🌿 Seed Swap Guidelines

1. Labeling is Mandatory

To help every gardener succeed, please ensure all donated seeds are clearly labeled. Include the following if possible:

  • Common Name & Variety (e.g., Tomato, Cherokee Purple)

  • Harvest Year (Fresh seeds from the last 1–2 years are best!)

  • Source (Homegrown, purchased, or wild-foraged)

  • Growth Notes (e.g., Full sun, drought-tolerant, 85 days to harvest)

2. Quality Over Quantity

  • Heirlooms & Open-Pollinated: These are highly preferred so growers can save seeds themselves next year.

  • No Hybrids (F1): Please avoid bringing seeds from store-bought hybrid produce, as they won't grow "true to type."

  • Cleanliness: Ensure seeds are free from chaff, debris, and—most importantly—pests or mold.

3. Proper Packaging

  • Small paper envelopes or coin envelopes work best.

  • We will have seed envelopes available at the event.

  • If bringing bulk seeds, please bring a small scoop or spoon and extra empty envelopes for others to use.

4. The "Take Some, Leave Some" Spirit

  • Bringers: If you brought seeds, feel free to dive in!

  • Newbies: If you don't have seeds to swap yet, don't worry. We want you to start your garden! We just ask that you take only what you intend to plant this season.

5. No Invasive Species

To protect our local Texas ecosystem, please do not bring seeds for plants classified as invasive in our region. When in doubt, stick to vegetables, herbs, and native wildflowers.

🌱 Plant Swap & Sale Guidelines

1. Healthy Plants Only

To protect everyone’s gardens, please bring only disease-free and pest-free plants.

  • The "Check-Up": Inspect your plants for aphids, spider mites, or scale before arriving.

  • No Hitchhikers: Ensure pots are free of invasive weeds or fire ants.

  • Vigor: Plants should be well-established in their containers (no fresh cuttings that haven't rooted yet, unless clearly marked as "unrooted").

2. Clear Identification

Every plant should have a tag or label including:

  • Plant Name & Variety (e.g., Texas Star Hibiscus or Black Krim Tomato)

  • Sun/Water Needs (e.g., Full Sun, Low Water)

  • Sale vs. Swap: Clearly mark if the plant is for Trade Only, For Sale, or Free.

3. Pricing & Transactions (For Sellers)

  • Fair Pricing: We suggest "Bazaar Pricing" to keep things accessible for the community.

  • Payment Methods: Sellers are responsible for their own transactions. We recommend having Venmo/PayPal QR codes printed out or bringing a small cash float for change.

  • No Pressure: This is a community event; please keep the atmosphere friendly and educational!

  • Reserve a donation-based space by emailing: Events@GuildsofRequiem.org

4. Logistics & Care

  • Hardening Off: If your plants were started in a greenhouse or indoors, please "harden them off" (acclimate them to outdoor conditions) for a few days before the event so they don't wilt in the Texas sun.

  • Hydration: Please water your plants thoroughly the morning of the bazaar.

  • Containment: Ensure pots are not leaking excessively. Using recycled yogurt tubs or nursery pots is perfectly fine—and encouraged!

5. The "Swap" Etiquette

  • Fair Exchange: A "swap" usually implies a 1-for-1 trade of similar value (e.g., a 4-inch veggie start for a 4-inch herb).

  • Ask First: Always ask the owner before taking a plant from a "Swap" table.

  • End of Day: Any plants left behind at the end of the event must be taken home by the owner unless designated for the "Free Donation" area.
